Today I bring you part one of a story I’ve been writing up. This tale is about how Daren first met his A.I. which I will not tell you the name of mostly because I haven’t thought of one yet, lol. Anyways hope you enjoy part one of the story and tell me your thoughts in the comments.
“They have the VIP! We’re being overrun!” Shouted a frantic voice into his headset. “I’ve got the target with the VIP in sight, permission t-!“ Just a red hot shot came flying by his head from behind. In the blink of an eye he turned and fired off a spread shot from his modified bulldog shotgun at point blank range. Immediately the first brute fell, dead before he hit the ground. From the entrance of another stairway another brute jumped out mauler in hand, but almost before Daren knew what he was doing himself the brute found himself pumped full of lead. But then out of a dark corner of the building a brute with a gravity hammer came charging out in a rampage .Before Daren could react he was smashed through the wall in a storm of burning shrapnel. He landed with a loud thud! On the ground, his shields completely destroyed. Although his armor had taken most of the blow, shrapnel had pierced the joint between his chest and shoulder where there was no armor plating. Although the hammer had not been aimed at the head it still took a good part of the blow. Looking around, his vision, a blurry mess combined with his cracked visor and backup cameras going haywire made him throw off his helmet as he rolled off his back trying to stop the ringing in his ears. Bad idea, almost immediately the rough fist of a brute came smashing down barely missing his face although still jostling him. He soon found himself being lifted off his feet and met with the face of a brute twisted into a snarl. “Well, will you look at that? Where are your fancy moves now, “hero” ”. “You must be confused then.” he said, swinging his legs around and kicking him right in the groins. Before landing on his feet.“Cause I’m no hero.” Before he slid to grab his helmet only to bash it off another brute's head when he came charging in, sending it flying . He then grabbed the waist of the now flustered brute pulling him in and using his body as a shield against the shots off his own allies. In the same movement Daren also ripped the mauler out of the brutes hand and started rounding off shots. It all became a blur as guns flashed, at least for the brutes. Just as he was about to finish off the magazine Daren threw the brute he was using as a shield right at one of his attackers, knocking him down and temporarily distracting the three others remaining. He then used what time this brought him to rush in close and with one swift stroke slit the throats of two of them before ramming the blades into third, caching his weapon out of mid air as he fell before finishing off the one on the ground and picking up his helmet. By now the VIP had been tied onto the sides of a prowler that was taking off at full speed. Giving chase he found himself rounding a corner just to find a squad of brutes burst out of the wreckage of an old pawn shop forming a sort of firing line of brutes with a captain behind. Almost without thinking Daren jumped off to the side before propelling himself off the side of a wall with a kick and aimed for the captain. In the same movement he unsheathed a knife tied to the bottom of his left forearm before stabbing it into the brutes head through his eye hole upon impact. Landing in a crouch on the dead captain’s body he ripped off a belt of grenades and, detonating them all at once threw them at some unlucky brute before sprinting off, barely hearing the thunderous BOOM! That iling the brute vehicle best as he could he soon found himself at the remains of an old gas plant were the brutes had set up their FOB(Forward Operating Base).
