I paused, shaking our last canteen of water; it seemed half empty. Brendon caught up, and I resumed my pacing, on towards a distant town 20 miles down the road.
I looked down the road and in the distance I saw a car parked on the shoulder, the headlights off, the driver’s door open. I pointed it out to Brendon and called it a derelict wreck, but he ran ahead to check it out.
