Hello fellow friendos! Amigos! Rice Fielders! Comrades!
So MEGA figure scale has been a topic of debate for a while. People have been talking about how up-scaling figures would cause vehicles to be rendered useless. Others have talked about how up-scaling figures would reap more benefits than if they weren't scaled up. So in wanting to put my input into this issue, I present to you my attempt at scaling figures. I've gone with a compromise; Not everything is scaled up to make vehicles still work, and most figures are "generally" scaled (figures aren't scaled perfectly, but are scaled close to their height compared to other figures). The figures that I want to be scaled have different body parts in the image (brute, skirmisher, spartan), and I'll be talking about what I want different from each.
Grunts: Grunts are depicted to be 5 to 5 and 1/2 feet tall (as shown in the image). That means they should be only a head shorter than the marines. I would personally keep them the way they are though, because they're an example of what I call "generalized" scale. The thing is although they aren't scaled correctly, their height clearly shows that they are shorter than marines, and that to me is great.
Marines: Marines are depicted to be 5 1/2 to 6 feet tall (the height is shown in the image). I personally would keep their scale, just like the grunts, because their height shows that they are shorter than most of the other figures (another example of a figure being "generally" scaled). One of the marines has the new infinite helmet, because MEGA seems to be going a direction where marines have helmets, and I just wanted to show how helmeted marines scaled with others since helmets do add extra height.
Drones: Drones are depicted to be 5 1/2 to 6 feet tall (as shown in the image). Once again, I would keep their height because they scale well next to the marines and grunts.
Jackals/Skirmishers: Yes, I know the Skirmisher head on the jackal body looks fUnKy. Anyways, despite what the image says, Jackals/Skirmishers' height can range from 5 1/2 feet to 6 4/6 feet. The Jackals scale well with others, but the normal Skirmisher figure can sometimes be taller than elites. So If Skirmishers could get scaled down (and maybe have that goofy head remodeled), then Skirmishers would be perfect in my eyes.
Spartans: Spartans lore-wise are depicted to be 6 1/2 feet to 7 feet tall. In the picture, it shows the spartan with COD legs. People have talked about how COD legs make spartans too big to fit in vehicles, but the Infinite marines with COD thighs fit perfectly fine in Warthogs and other vehicles. So I feel like spartans should get a little height boost so they could scale well with other figures.
Elites: Elites are depicted to be 8 to 9 feet tall. I think elites should keep their height. They already tower over most figures, and they look good the way they are.
Brutes: Brutes are depicted to be 8 to 9 feet tall (sometimes even 10 feet tall). The picture shows that the Brute's using Skirmisher legs. I only used those to show how much taller I feel that they should be. There have been complaints about how Brutes wouldn't be able to fit in vehicles anymore if up-scaled. The thing though, is when looking at an image of a Brute, their legs are pretty short compared to their bodies, and their arms are pretty long. This means that if attempting to up-scale brutes, their legs wouldn't need to be up-scaled as much. Their torso's would need to be lengthened though, and their arms would probably have to be *longered*.
Hunters: Hunters are depicted to be 12 feet tall. I personally think they scale well with everything else. (Well this one's kinda short)
So that's it, I guess. The things I've listed are just little nitpicks that I'm able to live with, but if they were corrected, then I would be very satisfied with MEGA's products. When it comes to scaling, I feel that MEGA should maybe make these minor changes, but overall they're figures are great. MEGA specializes in micro-action figures, and their products would lose the "magic" if they decided to scale up everything.
Anyways, thank you for listening to my TED talk.
