the fact that you can throw grenades assassinate melee shoot jump and every thing ever, the music, the incredible AI, the full on gameplay of it all.

Marty O'Donnell's music, the characters, dialogue, writing the level design and lighting, NOSTALGIA All of these things and more is what makes halo, halo. The music to me is very nostalgic, whenever I hear the music starting say 'Crows Nest' it is powerful and meaningful and it makes you feel like your in a real base. At the end of 'The Storm' in halo 3 is another fantastic moment, arbiter's triumph over truth in 'The Covenant' was fantastic. And this is only one game I'm talking about here.

Master chief. And medium graphics - halo 2-halo reach had not to old style graphics but not too futuristic. Starting to get back into ce tho. Speaking of original trilogy, 343 will kinda have one too

Dying to the same gold brute with a brute shot 5 times on Legendary, and then encountering another one. Nah but really, it's the overall cool factor of the game.

I love the clash of cultures, that first thrill of panic as an elite draws his sword, or a brute charges with hammer in hand. Not to mention the sense of wonder that comes from semtepping out onto a Halo ring for the first time. More than anything, though, Halo raises a lot of questions about motivation and duty. What causes are worth fighting for? What beliefs are worth dying for? Who truly deserves to inherit the technology and power the Forerunners and Precursors left behind? Every character and faction has its own answers, and exploring those different perspectives is part of what makes Halo so great.

I think that it's the diversity of characters and the large universe of it. There is so many stories and POVs that it makes it really seem like a new universe.
