Love it for the nostalgia, but this hornet could almost never stay in one peice. Always popped out of it's studs everytime I tried to stand it up. Good start for what was to come later.

I finally have this and I can say it’s... fine.

The colour scheme is gorgeous, a wonderful smokey grey and silver palette.

The figures are alright, a bit run of the mill but it was the 2009 line, what were you expecting?

The build itself is alright, a bit stiff and solid but fine, no articulation on the rotors etc, but it still looks good in display, the cockpit piece is cool. I don’t like the odd large but that sticks out the back for stability though, just looks out of place, but it is holding the comically sized gun on.

But obviously, the elephant in the room is the poor part quality. It’s not as bad as people say, but a good few parts of it just up and fall off if you touch them, easily hw worst halo set for that.

It’s not as bad as people say, and it’s a beautiful set, not worthy of a full five stars, but worth so much more than the many one stars it’s been getting. Three stars from me, would buy again!

This was one of my first Megabloks sets
I will start by saying in 2009 that was impressive and if you looked at it it was a hornet.
Whilst other versions of the hornet were far better this was good for a new born company. It functioned just fine and it was nice to have Spartans and not marines.
The grunts were niece but I would have preferred a small AA turret or something this earns it

Mega Bloks have more than truly redeemed themselves with later versions of the hornet but the original was a huge disappointment. The figures weren't that exciting, accessories were minimum and the durability was almost non-existent. It would not stay together and eventually I gave up. It remains the one mega bloks set I have never built and unless you are prepared to glue the craft together, I would recommend buying one of the new models (that are superior in every way).

Its easy to be critical of the initial appearance of the UNSC Hornet, particularly when comparing the the quality of modern Mega Bloks builds generally and subsequent redesigns of the Hornet specifically. However, even if you transport yourself back to 2011 and you compare the Hornet to other builds at the time, its easily the most disappointing. The offering of figures is generic; a standard green Spartan Mark IV, and 3 of the common grunts; unexciting. The shotgun is a nice addition, but this is the only weapon included in set. As for the Hornet itself, Mega Bloks did a good job translating the vehicle into bloks. Visually its quite appealing, however functionally, it leave much to be desired. The gun is a solid pre-fab piece, with no rotation, and the thrusters too are fixed in place. Its worst characteristic is the narrow platform is stands on. I think the intent was to simulate the craft hovering. Fortunately the new designs are far better.

The figures are well made, but the hornet was poorly designed it fell apart when I picked it up, so I had to glue it together. I wish there was a 0 or -5 stars rating.
