I had a blast making this custom. I used super cheap acrylic paint that I purchased mainly from ross and some local dollar stores. I used many different colors in this custom. I also mixed a lot of different colors. I tried to put as much detail as I possibly could into this tiny mold. My apologies in advance for the lighting. Night time is the worst time to take pics. Natural sun light is the best in my opinion because I've notice the pics have a cooler blue hue as opposed to a warm yellow hue at night. Especially with indoor, non-LED lighting.
There are a lot of tiny holes and divots in this mold which allows you to "flow" the paint into. This is done by pouring the paint on and cleaning the excess around the divots. This give clean and accurate coverage of the area you want paint to seep into.
One example of this method would be the 3 green lines that connects the top and bottom of the plasma pistol. There is no way for me to accurately cover those thin lines with just a thin paint brush. You need to completely cover that middle section with paint, wait till it dries a little and use a q-tip/toothpick to scrape the excess.
Picture 6 show a comparison of the original color and style vs my custom. I always find that the best weapons to customize are the one that have a monotone color. Its basically a blank canvas.
Since I already have a couple of these charlie series figures, I though it would be fun to customize one of them. Satisfied with the plasma pistol custom, I'm going to move on to customizing the figure.
The 2nd to last pic shows re-do of my "CE" custom SPNKr. Still working on it. I used the silver acrylic paint in the last pic to paint both the rocket launcher and the plasma pistol. this silver paint has a nice amount of shine to it. Its almost like a semi-gloss, reflecting some light back. This works wonders for dry brushing as it gives a "scratched metal" look. It also works well when mixing with other colors. A lot of the green and blue in the plasma pistol has the silver paint mixed in there. It's also present on the pistol grip. It give nice "Glow" to the weapon. And the best part? I bought it at target for $1!
Last, but not least, if you read all the way through this, I appreciate you and hope that you found this review somewhat helpful. Hopefully, it will help you out with future customs!
Please, as always, constructive feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much and Enjoy!
