About this project
Last attempt didn't go through and it's about six hours past the "wait four hours before attempting a repost" rule, so here we go again.
I may not be painting anymore due to the cold, but that hasn't stopped me from scratching that itch for kitbashing. At the rate this goes, other than the Shlubmart figures, I probably won't have to kitbash a single figure for Season Two. All my 405th vehicles and terrain are sitting built on the pile of 405th stuff while I create a display for all of my favorite MCX, McFarlane, and Mattel sets and figures. I have the drop pods nearly displayed, and I can't believe how many packs of glowsticks I had to buy to have enough of that rubber necklace string that glowsticks come with. All of the sets I want to display are built/rebuilt except a few set portions that magically grew legs and walked away while I wan't looking in a rented storage locker during the house building process and were too expensive to replace.
With all the sets, vehicles, and terrain I could possibly build built and ready to be painted, I have turned to kitbashing an entire pile and a half of figures so that season two won't fall flat.
One of them is this figure. During Nigel's Opposite War community event, I realized that I don't have a signature figure (sig fig for short). I definitely need to remedy this. It's no secret (at least it won't be after I post this) that I feel that Reach and ODST are the two best Halo games, ever, of all time (cheesy Red vs Blue reference there). They are so good, in fact, that when the Bungie Era games are ported over to PC, those are the only two Halo titles I plan to buy. As such, I decided to make a Reach Spartan for my Sig Fig. I could just paint a Spartan in a shlubular color scheme when Season Two starts, but what's the fun in that? I am best known for being the Gallery's only active kitbasher, as well as the person who started the 405th Outlander Battalion series of customs. I decided to kitbash a 405th style Reach Spartan.
The 405th Spartan style actually lends itself quite well to Reach Spartans, who are already covered in ammo, pouches, and grit. A notable feature of this figure is that he is the first figure to use my newest design for pistol holster. Other than the ugly clip method (which works for anything and is actually used on this figure for his AR), I have yet to find a solution for attaching a Magnum to a figure in a seamless way. I don't want to have to sculpt around magnets, so I needed a solution that didn't involve gluing a giant clip to the figures leg and having the Magnum stick three millimeters out from the leg like a chump.
I originally tried the same method as a Bandai Halo Sprukit, and sculpted a c-clip for the Magnum, but that didn't work well and looked ugly to boot. I finally settled on the method that McFarlane and Mattel figures use. I sculpted an accessory peg, and the magnum now sticks seamlessly onto the leg, and can be removed just as easily.
This guy will be painted during Season Two, and will not be in Shlubmart. I haven't decided on a shlubular color scheme yet.
