About this project
Gerald woke up and stretched. Time to return to life in the zoo! He was a monkey you see, living in the El Paso zoo. It wasn’t that bad, honestly. Free food, 24-hour care, an audience to preform in front of. It was great! His only problem was the other monkey in the pen with him, his name was Patrick. Patrick hogged food, beat on him occasionally, and tested him like dirt. Mostly though, he kept to himself, so Gerald tried not to disturb him much.
Gerald sat up, and noticed the first weird thing, out of many weird things he’d eventually see that day. There wasn’t any food put out for them like usual. Gerald shrugged this off as a change in schedule, as things like that weren’t uncommon. He stretched again and when his hands hit the ground, they didn’t make a hand-hitting-ground noise. Instead of a slap, it was more of a thunk. Gerald looked down at his hand and squeaked. It was hard like the back of a beetle, and was four times the size it used to be! Then he heard a screech from the other side of the pen. He looked up and saw a creature with similar giant arms like his own. He was also bald, hunched, and his eyes were were glazed over and colored orange. Gerald backed away, and questioned, “What is you?!” Gerald then realized that he was speaking like a human. This was also new. The creature across the room responded angrily, “My name Patrick, what is you?”
“It me! Gerald!”
“Gerald? You ugly.”
“You not so pretty youself.”
Gerald realized that he and Patrick must have gone through a similar transformation. “What happen to us?” Patrick scoffed and loped into a corner, “Do I look like I have clue? I is just as dumb about this as you.” Gerald walked over to the viewing window. On the way he noticed that he was walking on two legs. He seemed to have learned a lot while he was sleeping, somehow. As he peered through the window, Gerald’s heart began to pound. He didn’t like what he was seeing. “Patrick, you might want look at this.”
When Patrick made it over, his orange eyes went wide as well. Several human bodies and strange human-like bodies lay strewn in the viewing area. Many of them looked like they were fighting each other. Some of them looked like they had been eaten on by a large animal. The only thing they all had in common; they were all dead.
“This bad,” Gerald said.
“No kidding. What make you think that?!”
Gerald was about to yell back, when something started pounding on the door. The two monkeys screeched and hid themselves. The door broke open, and they prepared themselves for their inevitable doom...
Let me lay this on you guys: this first story has nothing to do with the overall arc of the rest of the season. Just wanted to do an origin of Grub’s Tribe.
