I’d been meaning to get around to this one for ages. While I realize that the Jackrabbit's front wheel booms fold inwards when stationary, it seemed a little odd that the stock model didn’t reflect the front wheels spread wide as we typically see it deployed in-game. This super simple rebuild will address the stock model’s too narrow stance, shortened wheelbase and a few other absent or inaccurate details.
The front wheel boom rebuild was accomplished with a handful of parts substitutions, the most notable being a pair of Mega Bloks 2x2 axle mounts in silver, a pair of L*go Technics 1x3 grey swingarms, and a few camo green slopes. The front wheel booms now extend further forward in game-accurate fashion and even better- each front wheel boom now articulates vertically! **Check out the exploded view pic for specific parts used.
In the cockpit, the stock steering control arrangement doesn’t really work as it puts the steering handles at both an odd angle and out of reach of the seated mini-figure. A minor parts substitution took care of this. **Check out the before & after pic for this modification. I also added the exhaust pipe and muffler to the left side of the vehicle. It wasn’t possible to add exhaust to the right side as Mega’s asymmetrical rear swingarm design does not allow for a game-accurate rear-end build.
At the back of the vehicle I re-worked the rear fender to extended it by one stud. This allowed me to mount the grenade launcher properly. While I was at it I decided to substitute A COD backpack for the side mounted storage box. Neither is game-accurate but I think the soft pack looks cooler.
Well there ya go. I've included a couple of ref pics and one of Mega's stock build pics for those that don't have a Jackrabbit in their collection to compare with. Let me know whatcha think and feel free to clone my build. If you do decide to clone it there is one little parts mod you can ask me about…
